ABOUT
Erika Mizuno recalls a garment she made while studying in Antwerp,
long before founding her brand, EAUSEENON. The theme of this
garment: "Widows". Most would presume black garments, a woman
covering her face with a black veil. But she was different. She
created a collection of pink and floral garments for widows. Many
people would be confused, why pink and florals? "I believe widows
wouldn't be looking back at the memories with their husbands in a
negative way, but rather cherishing the happiness they'd shared. I
wanted to show those feelings of happiness, and decided to convey
this happiness through color." Erika's unique perspective seeing
beauty in the world, despite it often being dark and heavy,
derived from studying Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement) as a
child. She learned traditional Japanese etiquette and humility, as
well as recognizing the beauty in not only the glamorous but the
simple things. This emotionality and perspective nurtured from an
early age blossomed into her own brand, which she founded in 2015
after studying in Tokyo and Antwerp. EAUSEENON is not a brand
that aims to make garments that are merely beautiful. It sends the
message that even when we recognize strangeness and oddities in
the world, we are able to see the beauty in them.
Humans are not only attracted to beauty, but also to the strange
and bizarre. There does not need to be any loneliness when
recognizing beauty in ugliness. EAUSEENON acknowledges that
loneliness and makes it unique. Becoming a mother, a parent to a
child, changed Erika as a designer. Clothes should be comfortable
for everyday life. Clothes can be new and exciting, but at the
same time need to be comfortable whether you are spending time
with your children or working. This became increasingly important
to Erika. Flowers mesmerize people with their beauty. But the
world is not full of beautiful flowers. Even the unnamed flowers
that bloom in the wild are beautiful. Beauty is not bound by age
or sense of worth, we are free to define it for what we please.
EAUSEENON liberates your emotions.
Designer
Erika Mizuno
After studying fashion at Bunka Fashion College Tokyo Masters
Program and Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, Mizuno returned to
Japan and worked at a millinery brand before establishing her own
brand, "EAUSEENON" in 2015. The name comes from the flower
"Erika", which she is named after. Original textiles with
embroidery and flower motifs, a symbol of the brand, embody the
unfiltered innocence of womanhood to be exposed, turning feminine
elegance into sweet and tangy garments.
